The GCC oxides and hydroxides market surged to $X in 2021, jumping by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a strong expansion. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 83% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Kuwait (5%). Oman (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chromium, manganese, lead and copper oxides and hydroxides exports, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kuwait (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Oman (-11.7%) and Saudi Arabia (-13.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+36 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Oman (-4.3 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-31.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest oxides and hydroxides supplier in GCC, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 4.8% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, oxides and hydroxides exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-16.9% per year) and Kuwait (-4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -35.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 98% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (-4.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, the amount of chromium, manganese, lead and copper oxides and hydroxides imported in GCC skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 34% against the previous year. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, oxides and hydroxides imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 94% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main importer of chromium, manganese, lead and copper oxides and hydroxides in GCC, mixing up 98% of total import.
