The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 627% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, clasp knife exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 218% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates was the largest exporter of clasp knives in GCC, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 57% of total exports in 2022. Oman (X units) took a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bahrain (8.3%) and Kuwait (5.5%). Saudi Arabia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to clasp knife exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +9.8%. At the same time, Oman (+28.9%), Saudi Arabia (+20.6%) and Bahrain (+12.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +28.9% from 2012-2022. Kuwait experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Oman (+20 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait saw its share reduced by -9.8% and -12.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest clasp knife supplier in GCC, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +6.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+13.8% per year) and Bahrain (+13.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -16.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 69%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of clasp knives in GCC shrank remarkably to X units, with a decrease of -18.4% on the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +12.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 38%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, clasp knife imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 214% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates represented the major importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 65% of total imports. Kuwait (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (10%), Oman (6.8%) and Bahrain (4.9%).
Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -1.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Qatar (+56.0%), Kuwait (+14.0%) and Oman (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +56.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bahrain (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Qatar (+9.9 p.p.) and Kuwait (+9.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Bahrain (-2.8 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-18 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kuwait (+16.1% per year) and Qatar (+18.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -40% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 127%.
