In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume decreased by -52.6% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 4,642% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 2,922%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together amounting to 99.9% of total export.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports, with a CAGR of +52.5% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) also remains the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre supplier in GCC.
In the United Arab Emirates, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres increased at an average annual rate of +40.7% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 86%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.

Imports in GCC
In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume decreased by -12.3% to X tons. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the major importer of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, constituting 65% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together creating a 33% share of total imports.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres imports, with a CAGR of +7.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Qatar (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Qatar (+17 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Saudi Arabia (-19.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Qatar ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 97% of total imports.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +14.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
