Exports in GCC

In 2021, approx. X tons of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof were exported in GCC; which is down by -17% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 29%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, computing machinery exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 37%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 85% of total exports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 12% share of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -8.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+32.7%) and Saudi Arabia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +32.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Oman and Saudi Arabia increased by +5.9 and +3.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest computing machinery supplier in GCC, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, computing machinery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+3.4% per year) and Oman (+20.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+13.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Computing Machinery Imports

Imports in GCC

In 2021, the amount of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof imported in GCC surged to X tons, picking up by 38% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, computing machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +66.6% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 73% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), committing a 15% share of total imports. Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof imports, with a CAGR of +6.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Qatar (-2.4%), Saudi Arabia (-5.1%), Bahrain (-6.4%) and Kuwait (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +22 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof in GCC, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 4.6% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, computing machinery imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-0.8% per year) and Kuwait (+0.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
