Exports in GCC

In 2021, overseas shipments of concentrated apple juice increased by 30% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, faced a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 96% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the largest exporter of concentrated apple juice in GCC, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 58% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together committing a 37% share of total exports. Oman (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+38.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +38.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Oman (-1.8%) and Saudi Arabia (-23.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+47 p.p.), Bahrain (+10 p.p.) and Oman (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Saudi Arabia (-59.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest concentrated apple juice supplier in GCC, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with an 8.7% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, concentrated apple juice exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-25.2% per year) and Bahrain (+34.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Concentrated Apple Juice Imports

In 2021, approx. X tons of concentrated apple juice were imported in GCC; dropping by -14.9% against the year before. Overall, imports showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) dominates imports structure, together mixing up 91% of total imports. The following importers - Qatar (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - together made up 8.9% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +234.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Qatar ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 95% share of total imports.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +168.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (-0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
