In 2021, shipments abroad of copper tubes and pipes increased by 30% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 95%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, copper tube and pipe exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed significant growth. Exports by Country

Bahrain prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 6.9% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (5.9%).

Bahrain was also the fastest-growing in terms of the copper tubes and pipes exports, with a CAGR of +66.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+11.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Bahrain increased by +79 percentage points.

In value terms, Bahrain ($X) remains the largest copper tube and pipe supplier in GCC, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 3.4% share of total exports.

In Bahrain, copper tube and pipe exports increased at an average annual rate of +82.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-2.8% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+6.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 41% against the previous year. Export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, copper tube and pipe export price increased by +68.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, copper tube and pipe imports in GCC reached X tons, increasing by 4.3% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, copper tube and pipe imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together achieving 80% of total imports. Kuwait (X tons) held a 7.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (6.3%). The following importers - Bahrain (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - each resulted at a 6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +5.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper tube and pipe importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Qatar ($X), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, surging by 35% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
