In 2022, the amount of cow peas (dry) imported in GCC skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 27% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 113%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cow peas imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 74%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 83% of total imports in 2022. Kuwait (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X tons) and Qatar (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 16% share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kuwait (+13.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Oman (-1.3%) and Qatar (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cow peas (dry) in GCC, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with a 6.9% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, cow peas imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+17.5% per year) and Oman (+0.3% per year).
