The GCC curtains market contracted to $X in 2022, dropping by -8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, curtains production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 468,673,500%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
Curtains Exports
Exports in GCC
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of curtains and interior blinds decreased by -15.3% to X square meters in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 58%. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, curtains exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, recording X square meters, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X square meters) and Oman (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to curtains exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +7.6%. At the same time, Oman (+13.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +13.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+8.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest curtains supplier in GCC, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 2.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +10.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+10.8% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per square meter, almost unchanged from the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter), while Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Curtains Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of curtains and interior blinds, when their volume decreased by -5.5% to X square meters. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, curtains imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 20%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) prevails in imports structure, together achieving 83% of total imports. Qatar (X square meters) held a 5.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (5.3%). Kuwait (X square meters) and Bahrain (X square meters) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +8.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Qatar ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 86% share of total imports. Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
Oman, with a CAGR of +12.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per square meter, shrinking by -7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per square meter), while Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
