In 2021, after nine years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of dog and cat food, when their volume decreased by -16.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) were the major importers of dog and cat food, together generating 99.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +20.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dog and cat food in GCC, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 13% share.
