In 2021, overseas shipments of domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 196% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 419% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates represented the largest exporter of domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances in GCC, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 69% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Oman (X tons), together constituting a 29% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliance exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at -3.3%. At the same time, Oman (+30.8%) and Kuwait (+9.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +30.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-5.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Saudi Arabia (-5.2 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliance supplier in GCC, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with an 8.8% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, exports of domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-3.7% per year) and Oman (+28.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, export price for domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances increased by +81.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Domestic, Non-Electric, Cooking Or Heating Appliances
Imports in GCC
In 2021, the amount of domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances imported in GCC reached X tons, picking up by 6.3% compared with 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.0% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 27%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 57% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Oman (9.6%), Kuwait (6.5%) and Qatar (5.3%). Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliance imports into Saudi Arabia stood at +4.5%. At the same time, Qatar (+7.5%), Bahrain (+6.4%), Oman (+4.2%) and Kuwait (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +7.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+7.6 p.p.) and Qatar (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-10.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances in GCC, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia totaled +6.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-0.3% per year) and Oman (+6.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 6.5%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Bahrain ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
