Feldspar Market Size in GCC

In 2021, the GCC feldspar market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of feldspar, when their volume decreased by -65.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 202%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports faced a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 167%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the feldspar exports, with a CAGR of +9.9% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-42.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+87 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-89.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest feldspar supplier in GCC, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In Saudi Arabia, feldspar exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 172%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+16.5%).

In 2021, supplies from abroad of feldspar increased by 102% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, feldspar imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw modest growth. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 93% of total imports in 2021. Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to feldspar imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +1.2%. At the same time, Kuwait (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +6.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Oman (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +11 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, feldspar import price decreased by -21.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
