Non-corrugated paper box imports totaled X tons in 2022, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-corrugated paper box imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the largest importer of folding cartons, boxes and cases of non-corrugated paper or paperboard, comprising 41% of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (14%), Oman (11%), Kuwait (8.9%) and Qatar (8.1%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-corrugated paper box imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +3.6%. At the same time, Qatar (+29.4%), Oman (+15.8%) and Bahrain (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported folding cartons, boxes and cases of non-corrugated paper or paperboard in GCC, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Bahrain, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled +4.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-7.5% per year) and Bahrain (+7.1% per year).
