In 2021, grape juice (single strength) exports in GCC fell dramatically to X tons, which is down by -85.9% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 900% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) exports declined dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 2,247%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the major exporter of grape juice (single strength) in GCC, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 77% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), making up a 22% share of total exports.

Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the grape juice (single strength) exports, with a CAGR of -1.2% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Saudi Arabia (+8.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -8.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest grape juice (single strength) supplying countries in GCC were Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X).

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of -10.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -62.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 135%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-4.9%).

Imports of Grape Juice (Single Strength)

In 2021, overseas purchases of grape juice (single strength) decreased by -8.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 352% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) imports reached $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 452% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the largest importer of grape juice (single strength) in GCC, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 62% of total imports in 2021. Qatar (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 25% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (7%). Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Qatar (+62.9%) and Oman (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +62.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-3.2%) and Kuwait (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Qatar (+25 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+4.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -8.7% and -13.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), Qatar ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 94% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +74.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 22%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Qatar ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
