After three years of growth, the GCC grapefruit juice (single strength) market decreased by -9.1% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +66.5% against 2015 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
Production of Grapefruit Juice (Single Strength) in GCC
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) production declined notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 155% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Grapefruit juice (single strength) exports dropped remarkably to X tons in 2021, waning by -29.3% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 109%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 288%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kuwait represented the main exporter of grapefruit juice (single strength) in GCC, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 55% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Oman (X tons), together making up a 45% share of total exports.
Kuwait was also the fastest-growing in terms of the grapefruit juice (single strength) exports, with a CAGR of +22.6% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-4.1%), Oman (-5.8%) and Saudi Arabia (-17.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kuwait (+49 p.p.) and Oman (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Saudi Arabia (-38.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kuwait ($X) remains the largest grapefruit juice (single strength) supplier in GCC, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kuwait stood at +25.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+3.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-10.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 117%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Grapefruit Juice (Single Strength)
Imports in GCC
In 2021, imports of grapefruit juice (single strength) in GCC stood at X tons, with an increase of 2.3% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 179%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 161% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Oman represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 42% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Bahrain (17%), Qatar (11%) and Kuwait (9.7%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to grapefruit juice (single strength) imports into Oman stood at +15.5%. At the same time, Bahrain (+31.5%) and Kuwait (+12.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +31.5% from 2012-2021. Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+40 p.p.), Bahrain (+16 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+12 p.p.), Qatar (+11 p.p.) and Kuwait (+8.9 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest grapefruit juice (single strength) importing markets in GCC were Oman ($X), Bahrain ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 81% share of total imports.
Bahrain, with a CAGR of +45.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 9.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, grapefruit juice (single strength) import price increased by +55.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
