Exports in GCC
After four years of decline, shipments abroad of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers increased by 75% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 101% against the previous year. Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers exports, with a CAGR of -14.8% from 2012 to 2021. Saudi Arabia (-18.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest hairpin supplier in GCC, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, waning by -32.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 143%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.1%).
Hairpin Imports
Imports in GCC
Hairpin imports contracted sharply to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -40.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hairpin imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) dominates imports structure, together achieving 89% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), mixing up a 5.4% share of total imports. Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +2.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 46% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
