Exports in GCC
In 2021, shipments abroad of hand tools decreased by -25.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hand tools exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), constituting a 5% share of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) and Oman (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand tools exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at -2.2%. At the same time, Oman (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +3.3% from 2012-2021. Bahrain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +7.3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest hand tools supplier in GCC, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +2.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-6.8% per year) and Bahrain (+5.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 70% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, hand tools export price increased by +80.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Oman ($X per ton) and Bahrain ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in GCC
In 2021, supplies from abroad of hand tools increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 16%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together comprising 82% of total imports. Qatar (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together took near 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - together made up 7% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +1.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Qatar ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 90% share of total imports. Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.
Bahrain, with a CAGR of +3.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
