The GCC plastic headgear market dropped to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -9.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a perceptible decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Plastic Headgear Production in GCC
In value terms, plastic headgear production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +4.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 15%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in GCC
In 2022, overseas shipments of headgear of rubber or plastic decreased by -13.7% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 149%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, plastic headgear exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 170%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Oman (X units), mixing up a 7.1% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic headgear exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +15.0%. At the same time, Oman (+66.0%) and Saudi Arabia (+17.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +66.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Oman increased by +6.9 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest plastic headgear supplier in GCC, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.
In the United Arab Emirates, plastic headgear exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+64.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+4.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (-1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Plastic Headgear Imports
Imports in GCC
Plastic headgear imports fell to X units in 2022, dropping by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic headgear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 262%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the largest importing country with an import of about X units, which recorded 68% of total imports. Oman (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (9.1%) and Qatar (5.7%). Bahrain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -5.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+28.2%) and Qatar (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +28.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kuwait (-1.5%) and Bahrain (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+14 p.p.), Qatar (+3.1 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-18.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported headgear of rubber or plastic in GCC, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at -2.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+2.5% per year) and Qatar (+5.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 479%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
