Chicken Egg Market Size in GCC

The GCC chicken egg market expanded notably to $X in 2022, increasing by 8.2% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +24.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 808%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) remains the largest chicken egg producing country in GCC, accounting for 67% of total volume. Moreover, chicken egg production in Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Kuwait (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 10% share.

In Saudi Arabia, chicken egg production increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kuwait (+5.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.2% per year).

In 2022, the amount of chicken eggs exported in GCC contracted significantly to X tons, which is down by -37.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 49%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 40% of total exports. Oman (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kuwait (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took near 60% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Oman ($X) and Kuwait ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 85% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +19.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 20% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 35%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in GCC

In 2022, the amount of chicken eggs imported in GCC expanded rapidly to X tons, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the largest importer of chicken eggs, mixing up 46% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (17%), Oman (12%) and Bahrain (6.7%). Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chicken egg imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +13.2%. At the same time, Qatar (+67.7%), Kuwait (+41.0%), Saudi Arabia (+29.7%), Bahrain (+25.4%) and Oman (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. In terms of the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +49.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -5.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
