In general, exports faced a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates was the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bahrain (X units), comprising a 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X units) and Oman (X units) - each resulted at a 6.7% share of total exports.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -10.1% from 2012 to 2022. Oman (-8.6%), Bahrain (-15.6%) and Saudi Arabia (-20.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain saw its share reduced by -6.1% and -10.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest non-combined refrigerator-freezer supplying countries in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Bahrain ($X) and Oman ($X), together comprising 96% of total exports.
Oman, with a CAGR of -7.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, rising by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 9.1%. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) decreased by -5.3% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) prevails in imports structure, together mixing up 76% of total imports. Kuwait (X units) held an 8.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (8%) and Qatar (5.2%). Bahrain (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +5.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 78% share of total imports. Oman, Qatar and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +7.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
