The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 63%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) was the main exporter of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses, achieving 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X units), constituting an 18% share of total exports. Bahrain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to test and measurement exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at -8.8%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+31.0%) and Bahrain (+25.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +31.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain increased by +17 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+13.9% per year) and Bahrain (+13.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -36.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 735% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas purchases of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses increased by 13% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, test and measurement imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

The United Arab Emirates prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 89% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Oman (X units), generating a 5.9% share of total imports. Qatar (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Qatar (+22.4%) and Oman (+13.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +22.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Qatar increased by +1.8 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking pressure of liquids or gasses in GCC, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports.

In the United Arab Emirates, test and measurement imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+1.8% per year) and Qatar (+11.6% per year).
