As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Saudi Arabia.

Ketone And Quinone Imports

Imports in GCC

For the third year in a row, GCC recorded growth in purchases abroad of ketones and quinones, which increased by 32% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ketone and quinone imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), creating a 7.8% share of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -1.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +5.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-15.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+16 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Saudi Arabia (-17.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Bahrain ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 96% of total imports.

Bahrain, with a CAGR of +12.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 22%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
