Bahrain was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), constituting an 18% share of total exports. The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X units) and Oman (X units) - together made up 5.1% of total exports.

Bahrain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of lifting equipment designed for mounting on road vehicles. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+18.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-14.4%) and Oman (-21.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Bahrain (+28 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Oman (-6.4 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-25 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Bahrain ($X) and Oman ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 92% of total exports. Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 4%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +15.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -15.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+13.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, overseas purchases of lifting equipment designed for mounting on road vehicles were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports enjoyed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 112%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
