Imports in GCC

In 2022, supplies from abroad of line telephone sets with cordless handsets increased by 1.2% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, line telephone imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 106% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X units), making up an 8.2% share of total imports. Oman (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -2.2% from 2012 to 2022. Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Oman (-15.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+6.6 p.p.) and Qatar (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Oman (-7.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported line telephone sets with cordless handsets in GCC, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Qatar ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to -8.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Qatar (+4.0% per year) and Oman (-20.0% per year).
