Exports in GCC
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas decreased by -25.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, mandarin and clementine exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 75%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kuwait dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), constituting a 4.8% share of total exports. Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Kuwait was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas exports, with a CAGR of +30.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kuwait (+62 p.p.) and Oman (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Bahrain (-4.4 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-58.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Kuwait ($X) emerged as the largest mandarin and clementine supplier in GCC, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kuwait stood at +39.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (0.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-8.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -27.4% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mandarin And Clementine Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas, when their volume decreased by -20.5% to X tons. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 46%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
In value terms, mandarin and clementine imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia was the key importer of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas in GCC, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Qatar (X tons). All these countries together held near 37% share of total imports. Bahrain (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +11.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest mandarin and clementine importing markets in GCC were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Qatar ($X), with a combined 88% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +17.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Oman ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
