The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +17.9% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, nail and bolt exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +23.3% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Oman represented the main exporter of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts in GCC, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 30% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Saudi Arabia (7.2%).
Oman was also the fastest-growing in terms of the nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts exports, with a CAGR of +32.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+10.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+54 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-55.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest nail and bolt supplying countries in GCC were Oman ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +35.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in GCC
In 2021, approx. X tons of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts were imported in GCC; declining by -6.9% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 7.8%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, nail and bolt imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together committing 79% of total imports. Qatar (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 19% share of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +2.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Qatar ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 87% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further 13%.
Bahrain, with a CAGR of +4.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Bahrain ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
