Exports in GCC
In 2021, the amount of non-medical x-rays exported in GCC declined sharply to X tons, reducing by -26.5% compared with the year before. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 147%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 109% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), constituting a 9.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - Oman (X kg) and Kuwait (X kg) - each recorded a 5.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-medical x-ray exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at -1.6%. At the same time, Oman (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +10.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kuwait (-3.3%) and Saudi Arabia (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+9.7 p.p.) and Oman (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest non-medical x-ray supplier in GCC, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 4.3% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, non-medical x-ray exports plunged by an average annual rate of -10.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-5.9% per year) and Oman (+0.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -25.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 86%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (-1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Non-Medical X-Ray Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2021, approx. X tons of non-medical x-rays were imported in GCC; with a decrease of -26.1% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Qatar (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 80% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together comprising a 16% share of total imports. Oman (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +36.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-medical x-ray importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Qatar ($X), with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further 25%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +27.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
