Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together generating 90% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), making up a 7.9% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Oman (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest oils from coal tar supplier in GCC, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 7.1% share.
In Saudi Arabia, oils from coal tar exports declined by an average annual rate of -2.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-11.0% per year) and Oman (-2.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 6.3%. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (-4.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar, when their volume decreased by -45.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, oils from coal tar imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The United Arab Emirates dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 97% of total imports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -2.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+13.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +13.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia increased by +10 and +2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar in GCC, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports.
