Other Cereals Market Size in GCC
The GCC other cereals market rose to $X in 2021, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Other Cereals Production in GCC
In value terms, other cereals production fell markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 157%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Oman (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Qatar (X tons), together comprising 99.9% of total production.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +7.3%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average other cereals yield declined dramatically to X tons per ha in 2021, waning by -25.9% on 2020. Over the period under review, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the yield increased by 110% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha, and then dropped notably in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The other cereals harvested area contracted to X ha in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to other cereals production attained the maximum at X ha in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.
Other Cereals Exports
Exports in GCC
In 2021, approx. X tons of other cerealses were exported in GCC; which is down by -47.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 366%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, other cereals exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 184%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), constituting a 4.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to other cereals exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +17.1%. At the same time, Oman (+18.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +18.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +3.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest other cereals supplier in GCC, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +19.8%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.

Other Cereals Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2021, the amount of other cerealses imported in GCC declined to X tons, with a decrease of -10.8% on the previous year. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 1,661%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, other cereals imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 599% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Oman (X tons) was the largest importer of other cerealses, creating 51% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (13%) and Qatar (4.7%). The following importers - Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total imports.
Oman was also the fastest-growing in terms of the other cerealses imports, with a CAGR of +69.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Qatar (+36.8%), the United Arab Emirates (+19.0%) and Kuwait (+11.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Bahrain (-2.5%) and Saudi Arabia (-19.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+48 p.p.), Qatar (+4.7 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-13.4 p.p.), Bahrain (-19.8 p.p.) and Kuwait (-22.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest other cereals importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Kuwait ($X) and Oman ($X), together comprising 79% of total imports.
Oman, with a CAGR of +64.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -5.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 435%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
