Exports in GCC

Other papers packaging exports soared to X tons in 2022, growing by 35% on the year before. In general, exports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 961% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, other papers packaging exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate strong growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+2.1%).

Other Papers Packaging Imports

Imports in GCC

In 2022, supplies from abroad of other papers packaging decreased by -26.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 18%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other papers packaging imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 87% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together creating a 12% share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+26.0%) and Kuwait (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +26.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+61 p.p.), Oman (+6.1 p.p.) and Kuwait (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported other papers packaging in GCC, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports.

In the United Arab Emirates, other papers packaging imports increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Oman (+7.7% per year) and Kuwait (+0.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced contraction.
