Exports in GCC

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of peaches and nectarines, when their volume increased by 152% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 162% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, peach and nectarine exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded prominent growth. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the major exporter of peaches and nectarines, making up 60% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together took near 40% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +17.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest peach and nectarine supplier in GCC, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, peach and nectarine exports increased at an average annual rate of +21.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+4.5% per year) and Oman (+9.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -10.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 118%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Peach And Nectarine Imports

Imports in GCC

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of peaches and nectarines increased by 2.9% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -16.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, peach and nectarine imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main importer of peaches and nectarines, committing 50% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons). All these countries together took near 48% share of total imports. Qatar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to peach and nectarine imports into Saudi Arabia stood at +3.3%. At the same time, Oman (+21.9%), Bahrain (+10.5%), Qatar (+6.2%), Kuwait (+4.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +21.9% from 2012-2021. Oman (+9.4 p.p.) and Bahrain (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -5.1% and -6.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest peach and nectarine importing markets in GCC were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together accounting for 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Oman, Bahrain and Qatar, which together accounted for a further 25%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +23.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
