In 2021, overseas shipments of peas (dry) decreased by -23% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 80%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry peas exports plummeted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The shipments of the one major exporters of peas (dry), namely the United Arab Emirates, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the peas (dry) exports, with a CAGR of +4.8% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) also remains the largest dry peas supplier in GCC.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +1.1%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 35%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United Arab Emirates amounted to -3.6% per year.

In 2021, the amount of peas (dry) imported in GCC soared to X tons, growing by 27% on the year before. Overall, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry peas imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), generating a 7.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) - together made up 9.3% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dry peas imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +13.8%. At the same time, Oman (+18.0%), Qatar (+9.2%) and Bahrain (+8.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Oman increased by +16 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported peas (dry) in GCC, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with a 5.6% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, dry peas imports increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-3.2% per year) and Oman (+18.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
