Exports in GCC

In 2022, piper pepper exports in GCC declined rapidly to X tons, which is down by -15.3% against 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 109%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, piper pepper exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), generating a 5.3% share of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the piper pepper exports, with a CAGR of +11.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+12 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Oman (-2.8 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-6.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest piper pepper supplier in GCC, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 5.3% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, piper pepper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+8.6% per year) and Oman (+1.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, declining by -15.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of piper pepper decreased by -37.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 165%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total imports in 2022. Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the piper pepper imports, with a CAGR of +7.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kuwait (+4.0%) and Oman (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Qatar (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+31 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported piper pepper in GCC, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 2.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 2.4% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, piper pepper imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (-0.1% per year) and Qatar (+7.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -8% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Qatar ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
