In 2022, the GCC cement pipe market decreased by -0.1% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, showed a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports in GCC
In 2022, shipments abroad of pipes and other articles of cement was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 1,285% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cement pipe exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 570%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), creating an 8% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement pipe exports from Saudi Arabia stood at +24.7%. At the same time, Oman (+33.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+16.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +33.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kuwait (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+26 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-3.1 p.p.) and Kuwait (-23.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest cement pipe supplying countries in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Oman ($X), with a combined 95% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +42.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 125%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+17.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cement Pipe Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2022, overseas purchases of pipes and other articles of cement decreased by -25.1% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 248% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cement pipe imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 189%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 75% of total imports in 2022. Qatar (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.6% share, followed by Kuwait (6.2%) and Bahrain (5.2%). Saudi Arabia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement pipe imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +17.4%. At the same time, Bahrain (+19.3%) and Kuwait (+12.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +19.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Qatar (-2.7%) and Saudi Arabia (-12.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+39 p.p.), Bahrain (+3.1 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Qatar (-18.3 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-24.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pipes and other articles of cement in GCC, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with an 8.3% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, cement pipe imports expanded at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+8.9% per year) and Qatar (+9.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 38% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
