Exports in GCC

Lamp plastic parts exports shrank markedly to X tons in 2021, waning by -88.8% compared with the previous year. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 566% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, lamp plastic parts exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 540% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the main exporter of plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings in GCC, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), creating a 12% share of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings exports, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. Saudi Arabia (-9.8%) and Bahrain (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +25 percentage points.

Among the main exporting countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +3.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -49.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, imports of plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings in GCC surged to X tons, picking up by 61% compared with 2020 figures. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lamp plastic parts imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the major importer of plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings, generating 59% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (5.6%) and Kuwait (5.5%).

Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings imports, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kuwait (+3.8%) and Qatar (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+29 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-25.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Qatar ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 91% share of total imports. Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 6.9%.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +8.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -36.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
