The total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 99% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X tons of plastics household articles and toilet articles were exported in GCC; with an increase of 2.6% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic household ware exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the largest exporter of plastics household articles and toilet articles in GCC, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 74% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together creating a 20% share of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) and Oman (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic household ware exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +3.9%. At the same time, Kuwait (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bahrain (-2.6%), Oman (-10.4%) and Saudi Arabia (-17.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+36 p.p.) and Kuwait (+5.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Oman (-2.4 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-39.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest plastic household ware supplier in GCC, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with an 8.6% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, plastic household ware exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-15.0% per year) and Kuwait (+9.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 4.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, plastic household ware export price increased by +51.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, approx. X tons of plastics household articles and toilet articles were imported in GCC; with an increase of 25% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic household ware imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +48.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the main importers of plastics household articles and toilet articles in GCC, together generating 69% of total imports. Kuwait (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (7.5%), Qatar (6.8%) and Bahrain (5%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic household ware importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together comprising 84% of total imports. These countries were followed by Qatar, Oman and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main importing countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +9.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
