In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 119%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) represented the major exporter of preservative-treated rough wood, achieving 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X cubic meters), committing a 21% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per cubic meter), while Oman amounted to $X per cubic meter.

Imports in GCC
Preservative-treated rough wood imports fell slightly to X cubic meters in 2021, waning by -1.9% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 129%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Oman was the key importer of preservative-treated rough wood in GCC, with the volume of imports amounting to X cubic meters, which was near 71% of total imports in 2021. Kuwait (X cubic meters) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (11%).
Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of preservative-treated rough wood. Kuwait experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. the United Arab Emirates (-15.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Oman (+24 p.p.) and Kuwait (+5.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -22.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Oman ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported preservative-treated rough wood in GCC, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
In Oman, preservative-treated rough wood imports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (-1.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-15.2% per year).
