Exports in GCC

For the third consecutive year, GCC recorded decline in shipments abroad of raspberries and blackberries, which decreased by -0.7% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 55%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the major exporter of raspberries and blackberries, constituting 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together committing a 29% share of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -12.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+65.6%) and Saudi Arabia (+30.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +65.6% from 2012-2022. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+18 p.p.) and Bahrain (+10 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-28.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest raspberry and blackberry supplying countries in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Bahrain ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +60.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, falling by -11.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 59%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Raspberry And Blackberry Imports

Imports in GCC

After ten years of growth, overseas purchases of raspberries and blackberries decreased by -44.6% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 150% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) represented the key importers of raspberries and blackberries, together constituting 98% of total imports. Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +82.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Kuwait ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 90% share of total imports.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +86.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -10.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, raspberry and blackberry import price increased by +21.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Qatar ($X per ton) and Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
