Razor Market Size in GCC

In 2021, the GCC razor market increased by 16% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Razor Production in GCC

In value terms, razor production contracted remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 139%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, razor exports in GCC rose slightly to X tons, increasing by 3.8% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, razor exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +133.1% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the largest exporter of razors, achieving 76% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Oman (5.8%) and Bahrain (5.1%).

Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+59.9%), Bahrain (+38.3%) and Saudi Arabia (+33.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +59.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+11 p.p.), Oman (+5.6 p.p.) and Bahrain (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-21.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest razor supplier in GCC, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bahrain (+36.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+30.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 39%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Razor Imports

Imports in GCC

In 2021, approx. X tons of razors were imported in GCC; increasing by 20% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, razor imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the key importer of razors, mixing up 52% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together held near 39% share of total imports. Kuwait (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +12.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 90% of total imports. Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.

Bahrain, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 10% against the previous year. Import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, razor import price increased by +21.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 41%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Kuwait ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Oman ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
