In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the key exporter of rice bran in GCC, comprising 100% of total export.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the rice bran exports, with a CAGR of +63.2% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +69 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) also remains the largest rice bran supplier in GCC.

Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 110%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United Arab Emirates amounted to +5.4% per year.
Rice Bran Imports
Imports in GCC
Rice bran imports shrank sharply to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -70% compared with 2020. In general, imports, however, posted a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 481%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rice bran imports declined sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 350%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Oman represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together mixing up a 47% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +43.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Oman ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rice bran in GCC, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 20% share of total imports.
In Oman, rice bran imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+46.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+20.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 46% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, rice bran import price decreased by -21.2% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+7.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
