Exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal totaled X tons in 2022, growing by 8.1% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports posted pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 94% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 71%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates prevails in offal structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 97% of total exports in 2022. Oman (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal exports, with a CAGR of +15.2% from 2012 to 2022. Oman (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+66 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Oman (-4.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal supplier in GCC, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +18.5%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 95% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+8.1%).

Imports in GCC
In 2022, purchases abroad of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal expanded to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the main importer of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal, constituting 69% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Oman (X tons), together making up a 30% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Oman (+7.2%) and Kuwait (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Qatar (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+29 p.p.), Kuwait (+5.8 p.p.) and Oman (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Qatar saw its share reduced by -16.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal in GCC, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Qatar ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 7.6% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal expanded at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Qatar (-8.7% per year) and Kuwait (-1.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -14.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
