The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 313% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, semiconductor LED exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Oman was the largest exporter of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in GCC, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), constituting an 11% share of total exports.

Oman was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) exports, with a CAGR of +99.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Oman (+86 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-84 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest semiconductor LED supplying countries in GCC were Oman ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X).

In terms of the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +48.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, declining by -2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Oman amounted to $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-12.9%).

Imports in GCC

Semiconductor LED imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, increasing by 78% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 276%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, semiconductor LED imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) represented the largest importer of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), making up 67% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Oman (X units) and Qatar (X units), together comprising a 32% share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +43.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+78.7%) and Qatar (+74.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +78.7% from 2012-2021. Oman (+14 p.p.) and Qatar (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -19.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest semiconductor LED importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Oman ($X), with a combined 90% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +59.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per unit, growing by 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (-8.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
