Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 60%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Kuwait (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the largest exporters of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) in GCC, together finishing at near 81% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Oman (8%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest sheepskin and lambskin supplier in GCC, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled -8.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+33.5% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-12.2% per year).

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, falling by -16.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in GCC
In 2021, supplies from abroad of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) increased by 105% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 172%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Oman (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 80% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), mixing up a 14% share of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In Oman, sheepskin and lambskin imports increased at an average annual rate of +71.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-28.7% per year) and Bahrain (-9.2% per year).
