The GCC sleeping bag market rose to $X in 2021, surging by 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, sleeping bag production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 37%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Sleeping bag exports fell significantly to X units in 2021, waning by -64.7% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 272% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sleeping bag exports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 134% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. Kuwait (X units) and Oman (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sleeping bag exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.2%. At the same time, Kuwait (+67.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +67.3% from 2012-2021. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kuwait increased by +3.3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest sleeping bag supplier in GCC, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 3.8% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, sleeping bag exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+83.0% per year) and Oman (+15.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 53% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per unit), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+15.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Sleeping Bag Imports

Imports in GCC

In 2021, purchases abroad of sleeping bags was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sleeping bag imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the major importer of sleeping bags in GCC, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 64% of total imports in 2021. Qatar (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Kuwait (12%) and Oman (6.6%). Bahrain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sleeping bag imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at -8.3%. At the same time, Qatar (+20.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +20.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Oman (-2.0%), Bahrain (-4.3%) and Kuwait (-16.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Qatar (+14 p.p.) and Oman (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kuwait (-15.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest sleeping bag importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Kuwait ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +28.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in GCC stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 66%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
