The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of stranded wire, ropes and cables decreased by -14.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, stranded wire imports dropped modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 20%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the key importer of stranded wire, ropes and cables, comprising 49% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Qatar (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons). All these countries together held near 51% share of total imports.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the stranded wire, ropes and cables imports, with a CAGR of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021. Qatar experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Oman (-2.2%), Kuwait (-6.4%), Bahrain (-8.8%) and Saudi Arabia (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+18 p.p.) and Qatar (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kuwait (-2.4 p.p.), Bahrain (-3.2 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-17 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported stranded wire, ropes and cables in GCC, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Oman, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-12.1% per year) and Oman (-2.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
