Exports in GCC

In 2021, overseas shipments of table eggs, excluding hen eggs increased by 71% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, faced a deep reduction. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), mixing up a 7.3% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-15.7%) and Kuwait (-30.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Saudi Arabia and Oman increased by +61 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) emerged as the largest non-chicken table egg supplier in GCC, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 7% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Saudi Arabia totaled +4.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (-33.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-12.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, imports of table eggs, excluding hen eggs in GCC soared to X tons, picking up by 23% against 2020 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 303% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 182%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 62% of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (13%).

Imports into Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +24.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+79.6%) and Kuwait (+16.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +79.6% from 2012-2021. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+62 p.p.), Bahrain (+22 p.p.) and Kuwait (+9.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table eggs, excluding hen eggs in GCC, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a 24% share of total imports.

In Saudi Arabia, non-chicken table egg imports increased at an average annual rate of +24.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bahrain (+34.8% per year) and Kuwait (+10.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a slight curtailment.
