In general, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 103%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable tanning extracts exports rose to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the largest exporter of tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives, comprising 76% of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together took near 24% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vegetable tanning extracts exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +10.4%. The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -9.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 74%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+15.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives, when their volume increased by 18% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 87%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable tanning extracts imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Qatar (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 85% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), making up an 11% share of total imports. Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +24.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 95% share of total imports.
Kuwait, with a CAGR of +18.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
