The GCC tea market contracted modestly to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a mild slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Tea Production in GCC
In value terms, tea production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a significant curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 17%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The country with the largest volume of tea production was Qatar (X kg), comprising approx. 100% of total volume.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Qatar was relatively modest.
Tea Exports
Exports in GCC
In 2022, exports of tea in GCC amounted to X tons, growing by 13% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tea exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tea exports, with a CAGR of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest tea supplier in GCC, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 5.1% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country
The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+5.5%).
Tea Imports
Imports in GCC
In 2022, tea imports in GCC reached X tons, surging by 2.9% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 57%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tea imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together mixing up 85% of total imports. Oman (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Kuwait (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 10% share of total imports. Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +5.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 88% of total imports.
Kuwait, with a CAGR of +12.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
