In 2021, the GCC orange juice (single strength) market decreased by -4.5% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after eight years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, saw strong growth. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In 2021, the amount of orange juice (single strength) exported in GCC shrank modestly to X tons, which is down by -3% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, posted a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 348% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, orange juice (single strength) exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 222% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the key exporter of orange juice (single strength), creating 58% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (13%).
Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the orange juice (single strength) exports, with a CAGR of +25.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kuwait (-16.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+49 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+14 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kuwait (-59.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest orange juice (single strength) supplier in GCC, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
In Saudi Arabia, orange juice (single strength) exports expanded at an average annual rate of +23.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.9% per year) and Kuwait (-16.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC
In 2021, imports of orange juice (single strength) in GCC dropped significantly to X tons, declining by -44.1% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 313%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, orange juice (single strength) imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 215%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the largest importer of orange juice (single strength), generating 55% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Bahrain (16%) and Qatar (6.6%). The following importers - Oman (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 5.3% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to orange juice (single strength) imports into Saudi Arabia stood at -9.1%. At the same time, Qatar (+23.1%), the United Arab Emirates (+3.0%) and Oman (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2021. Bahrain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kuwait (-22.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+9.9 p.p.), Bahrain (+7.4 p.p.), Qatar (+6 p.p.) and Oman (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kuwait and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -7.7% and -17.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported orange juice (single strength) in GCC, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia totaled -7.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bahrain (+8.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
