The German artificial and colloidal graphite market declined dramatically to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -98.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a sharp curtailment. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Norway (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of artificial and colloidal graphite exports from Germany, with a combined 38% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Turkey, Mexico, China, the United States, Canada, Austria, Iceland, Italy and India, which together accounted for a further 46%.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 56%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of artificial and colloidal graphite imports to Germany, together accounting for 49% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +26.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), India ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest artificial and colloidal graphite suppliers to Germany, together comprising 51% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Austria, Spain, Malaysia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
