The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for butter and dairy spreads exports from Germany, with a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, butter and dairy spreads exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands stood at +11.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+4.9% per year) and France (-5.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for butter and dairy spreads exports from Germany, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands stood at +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+10.0% per year) and France (-1.3% per year).

In 2022, the average butter and dairy spreads export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 35% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads export price increased by +60.9% against 2020 indices. Imports into Germany
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of butter and dairy spreads decreased by -32.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, butter and dairy spreads imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +10.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

The Netherlands (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of butter and dairy spreads imports to Germany, with a combined 86% share of total imports. Belgium, Denmark and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.7%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +12.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average butter and dairy spreads import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads import price increased by +51.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
